Basic Beef Burger

Sometimes, browsing Instagram or Facebook can do something about our appetite or diet. One time, while doing my usual IG routine, I saw a mean food post! Yes, that kind of post that makes you want to unfollow that person who posted it because it's 2am and you just brushed your teeth. It's a #foodporn at its finest: A juicy slab of burger resting on what seemed to be its bed of cushion-like bun, fresh lettuce and seductive dressing. Well, I resisted to dive into the temptation of dialing McDonald's delivery because I'm sure it will all go to my already big belly. But I made sure my cravings will be justified the next day. To the supermarket I went and bought the essentials in making this basic beef burger. It's not that visually enticing but it's royally satisfying.

This recipe can make two large and thick patties or like what I did, three medium thick ones. But remember to make your patty slightly bigger than the bun and not like what I have here. Haha! Okay, let's proceed.

Ingredients:

-250 gms ground beef
-1 medium egg (actually, it's optional)
-1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-1/8 tsp ground pepper
-1/8 tsp ground oregano
-pinch of ground cumin seed
-salt (varies according to your preference but I suggest you keep it to 1/8-1/4 tsp of iodized salt)
-1/2 cup bread crumbs

Procedure:

1. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients until everything is well incorporated.

2. Divide the mixture into three and roll into a ball. You may flatten it using a spatula or fork, or shape it according to how you want it to look like. I didn't use a lid to form mine but if you think you'll find it hard to make a perfectly-shaped patty, you may want to use a lid like what Savory Sweet Life did.

3. You may fry it in medium heat on a pan with a bit of oil. Medium so that it's perfectly toasted on the outside and juicy on the inside. You may also grill or bake it, whichever you feel is convenient for you. For best cooking results, refrigerate patties for at least 1 hour before frying or grilling. (source)

4. Layer it on a bun with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cheese slice and mayonnaise. Then enjoy your homemade basic beef burger with your family!

Stay tuned for my Burger Steak recipe on a separate post. :)

"Similar-shaped meat cakes not made from ground beef may also be called "burger": turkey burgers or fishburgers may be made from reshaped mechanically separated meat. Sometimes burgers are breaded. Veggie burger patties are made without animal products." source
