Ballad of a Politician

Halalan 2013 is almost over. The partial and unofficial results of the senatorial bid disappointed most of us; including me, a non-voter. Nancy Binay got in.

Ma'am, since you will be declared a Senator soon, I hope you won't waste the trust the people who voted you into darkness (no pun intended). And please, please attend the future senate hearings and face Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago should she has questions for you. It will delight your supporters (and shock your detractors) if you CAN answer her with grace. Emotional outburst at first may be called stage fright but a second time is definitely called cowardice. We don't want to use harsher words for that.

You claim to be the Nanay ng Senado. Just so you know, mothers are the strongest, bravest and boldest member of the family. Be true to your claim.

Anyway, I just want to share this song by Regina Spektor entitled Ballad of a Politician

A man inside a room is shaking hands with other men
This is how it happens
Our carefully laid plans

Shake it, shake it baby
Shake your ass out in that street
You're gonna make 'em scream someday
You're gonna make it big

You love so deep, so tender
Your people and your land
You love 'em 'til they can't recall
Who they are again

Work it, work it baby
Work your way 'round that room
You're gonna make it big some day
You're gonna make a boom

But I am
But I am
But I am not a number, not a name

But I am
But I am
But I am a carefully laid plan

Shake what your mama gave you
You know that it won't last
You're gonna taste the ground real soon
You're gonna taste the grass

A man inside a room is shaking hands with other men
This is how it happens
Our world under command

Shake it, shake it baby
Shake your ass out in that street
You're gonna make us scream someday
You're gonna make us weep

You're gonna make us scream someday
You're gonna make it big

Ma'am Nancy, I love these lines especially for you --- Shake what your mama gave you, You know that it won't last. In your case, it's your Papa. Good luck to your new job. Imagine, OJT in your father's office then you're now a senator! Make your parents proud. Don't get swayed by us, who do nothing but to criticize you. Prove us wrong, momma!

  2. Love this article..I did not vote her. And honestly, i'm still thinking why she won. Maybe because of his father's popularity but nonetheless, she must prove she deserves every vote she garnered. Filipinos deserve it,.
