I Don't Know How She Does It

I'm not going to tell you how I do it.

I don't think I'm that great enough to give advice on how I do my mommy stuff on a daily basis. Though there are moms who tell me that they wish they're a stay-at-home mom (SAHM) like me and that they wonder how I budget my husband's salary; I still believe that what I do is nothing compared to moms who bring home the bacon. Well, as far as this society is concerned, I am no good if matched to them. No matter how I show people that my daughter behaved more when I chose to stay at home with her, there will still be some who'd say that modern moms should earn for the family. I'd love to earn, of course! But I just can't leave my daughter to just anyone anymore. That's why I think work-at-home moms (WAHMs) are the modern day heroes of this generation. They are present for their children and at the same time, can contribute to the family's financial stability. In fact, I know some WAHMs who are solo parents. Special creatures, they really are.

I wanted to be a WAHM, too, in the first few months of my SAHMhood but I guess it's not for every mom. I get sick when I do too much. Yes, even with Sangobion. I remember being so stressed in preparing Sophia's 4th birthday party at school that I got hospitalized and eventually undergone a major medical operation. From then on, I decided to take things slowly but surely. I'd rather enjoy the moment with my 5-year-old preschooler, who's growing up soooo fast I can't blink, than be a career-driven mom who's always stuck in traffic. Haha! Choz lang. Honestly, I miss working. Especially now that it's almost Christmas. I miss getting a salary, Christmas bonus and presents from colleagues. I miss being commended for a job well done. La-dee-da.

Oh well, it's not that nobody appreciates me here at home. My daughter thinks I'm the best Nay everrrr! She even announced that in front of about a hundred people in an Art Attack event in Sta. Lucia Mall last Sunday. Hehe. As for my husband, I like that he loves the food I cook and he thinks our place mats are awesome. Oh, I feel appreciated by him, too when I don't catch him looking at other girls. Hahaha! Hey, that's a big deal. I always tell him this: "what I don't know won't hurt me", so I guess his mantra has become: "never let the wife know". ;)

OK, back to me being a SAHM. It rocks, it really does!

I am the first and last person my daughter sees every single day. There are no rumor mongering co-employees, I don't need to "invest" on working clothes and I don't get stuck in traffic every day. The latter's my favorite. Hihi. Being a SAHM has its ups and downs; so far, I'm enjoying its ups and just brushing off the downs. It's actually just a matter of being happy with your choice. Right?

Speaking of being happy with our choices, I encourage you, my dear fellow queens, to watch our kumare Sarah Jessica Parker's movie, I Don't Know How She Does It. It's a 2011 American "feel-good" film based on Allison Pearson's book with the same title. Some movie critics said that SJP wasn't in her element in this movie. But I'm not doing a movie review here. In fact, I like the script. Well, perhaps it's because the book itself is good enough. It's just so real and relatable. Like, there are group of moms in this movie Kate (SJP's character) called as momsters. Hahaha! Those moms are the irritating seemingly-perfect mothers who make us, regular moms, feel so miserable about our lives. They have time to go to the gym, they hate their in-laws and they don't DIY birthday parties. You must see the movie to know what I'm talking about! It's fun and sarcastic: One of my favorite mommy films.

Have you seen this? Have you already met a momster?
Are you happy with your choices? Care to share your thoughts?

  3. You're so right about this, it's all about being happy with your choice. It's not about condemning working moms for not being with their family 24/7, or SAHMs who are not able to contribute to their family's finances. It's about choosing what you think is best for your family and committing to make the most of it. Any type of mom is already a supermom. The mere fact they brought a kid into the world and striving to love, care and protect them makes them wonderful.

P.S. Sigh, bwisit nga talaga ang traffic, daming oras nasasayang, could have been time spent with family already. On that note swerte and SAHMs. =)
