Extreme Couponing

Last night, while I was folding the freshly-laundered clothes, I watched Extreme Couponing on TLC Ch 62. I was amazed at this young man who shopped for around $600+ with his family and only paid 5 bucks! It was because of the discount coupons he got from the newspapers.

And then there's this mom, named Pam, who's really OC that she has a "personal grocery store" inside her kitchen. Dream ko yun, muthers! Medyo exagg lang yung kanya 'cause the goods were like nakatikas-pahinga, very aligned and all. Hihi. But yeah, bet na bet ko din whenever my grocery cupboard's full. So when Pam got to go grocery-shopping using her coupons (which she gets from public recycling bins), she even made a flow chart of what she would be buying. Actually, mas magaling yung nauna sa kanya. She bought a total of $400+ worth of items and she still paid $80+. Pero kiber, if I was in her situation, super happy ko na din ha.

It is extreme, really. Others might think you look garbage for doing that. I'm sure if we have EC in the Philippines, we could hear a social-climber riche noveau Pinoy saying, "ano ba yan, wala bang pambili at kailangan gumamit ng coupon?" DUH. Kesa nagnanakaw, 'di ba? Anyway, what struck me was she said she doesn't care what others think or say about her 'cause that's what makes her happy. And she did it for her daughter who had a graduation party. Altogether now --- awwww. ♥

If we have couponing in our country, how far would you go for it?

  1. The counterpart here would be Groupons. I remember buying photobooth services worth P2000 from a Groupon site in 2011. We used it on our wedding in 2013. In fairness, ang actual price pala nun is P6000+. Hahaha!

Anyway- if we have couponing here, I don't think I'd be one of those who'd do it. Tamad ako eh. Haha! Kahit nga makisabay sa sales ayaw ko. PERO, kung online, go na go. :))

    1. Eh yung Groupon kasi friend, discounted price lang. Etong coupons, as in free. It's like money! Ako naman depende kung talagang worth it talaga. Lalo sa mahal ng mga bilihin! :)))

  2. I also watch this show and i'm amazed, 90% savings, san ka pa? Savings is savings!

  5. I just get to watch Extreme Couponing kapag umuuwi kami kina mudra every other week. I'm just sad kasi naging Tuesday na pala ang schedule nya. :( Grabe talaga yung pinapakita dyan. Meron pang naghahalungakat sa basurahan ng newspapers and magazines with coupons. Yung pinakamagaling na napanood dyan, the mom took home $1000+ worth of groceries na nakuha nya for free because of coupons. So they gave her a box or two of chocolate bars. And there was this family (lolo, lola, mga anak at apo nila) na bagsak na yung business at puro utang na. Proud silang sabihin na nakaahon sila sa hirap because of couponing. Kasi they don't have to worry about their food, toiletries, etc. Bills na lang for electricity, etc. And their stockpile is really big. Sabi they won't go hungry for the next 2 or 3 years. If ever may couponing dito sa Pinas, I won't mind if somebody would call me cheap for doing such. Just imagine what you can give to your family na wala o halos walang ibinayad di ba.

  6. I also watch this show, and lagi akong naaamaze sa effort nila magcollect ng coupons. Actually, it's not just the number of coupons they collect, but also taking time to read through the fine print. Nakakita ako ng coupons sa grocery sa US when I went there, and may mga conditions yung mga yun, kung extreme couponer ka, you really make the effort to read it. tapos iba ibang products pa yan. naaliw ako dun sa isang episode, yung 14-year old girl, sya ang naggogrocery para sa family nya because mahilig sya sa coupons.

    1. 'Di ba noh? It's really a task! Imagine lang how tedious it is. Tapos sila as in nakakadiscount ng more than 80% of the total amount. Ang galing lang. :)

Blecckkk!
