Sauteed String Beans

Here's another home cooked dish that is practical, healthy and easy on the budget. Some of my readers and friends have been bugging me for new recipe posts so I decided to share this with you. I had it with a little sabaw because I have a daughter who doesn't want her rice too dry. So here it is!

Ingredients:

- cooking oil
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 medium-sized onion (choose: red's pungent, white's sweet)
- 1 bunch of string beans or sitaw, chopped in 2 inches length
- 1 cup (1/4 kilo) of lean ground pork
- Kikkoman Soy Sauce
- half cup water
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- salt & pepper to taste

Procedure:

1. Roast the garlic on a skillet with cooking oil. Make sure it's golden brown. Set aside.

2. In the same skillet, sweat the onion. I've seen this on a cooking show, the slower the fire, the more flavor the onion releases. Oh 'di ba, tuma-Top Chef.

3. Put the ground pork. Season with salt and pepper. I am fond of toasting it so let it toast before making it pakielam (sorry, I can't think of a better term. Hehe).

4. When it's toasted enough, toasted ha not sunog, pour the water. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.

5. Put soy sauce according to your desired taste and color. I recommend using Kikkoman Soy Sauce because it has this special taste that ordinary soy sauce don't have.

6. Add the brown sugar and simmer again for a minute or two.

7. Place the chopped string beans. Once it's turned dark green, it's good to go. I prefer crunchy string beans when it's just sauteed like this, so I don't overcook it.

8. Plate it and top it off with the roasted garlic. Enjoy!

  9. I love sauteed beans, but I like the green beans, since I can't find string/long beans around here. I would love to cook adobong sitaw with long beans though. :)

  10. This one is a family favorite! :P My little man just loves string beans, only I use Worcestershire sauce and Knorr Seasoning mixed with water instead of Kikoman. :P It gives it a really awesome smell and tastes very yummy too. :P
